Mayfield
High School is located in beautiful Las
Cruces, New Mexico. Las Cruces is the second largest city in New Mexico
and is located on the Rio Grande River just north of El Paso, Texas. This
area is home to New Mexico State University,
White Sands Missile Range , pecan
farming and the best chile in the world. There are three major high schools
in the Las Cruces school system: Las
Cruces High School, Mayfield,
and our newest high school, Oñate.
The Mayfield High School Band and Color Guard is made up of 240 of our finest students. Over 10% of the school's student body participate in the band program and 25 % participate in the school's various, outstanding, music programs. For the last three years Mayfield has placed more musicians at All-State than any other school in New Mexico. Since scholastic achievement is paramount, the members of the band are expected to maintain high grades. As a result, the grade point average for the members of the band is well above the average for the school. | ![]() |

During
the marching season the band performs at many parades, games and regional
competitions. In the recent years the band has won accolades for its creative
and difficult programs (please see our awards page
). The culmination of 1999 marching season was the appearance of the band
in the 2000 Tournament of Roses
Parade . Mayfield has three concert bands that begin with the conclusion
of the marching season. Each of these bands has performed well at various
local and regional music festivals. The band also has two Jazz Bands that perform throughout the year. Recently Jazz Band 1 was named the Honor Jazz Band for the State of New Mexico. The newest component of the band is the Winter Guard. The Winter Guard was formed 1999 and has performed well both locally and at the Winter Guard International Regionals in Denver, Co. |
